Teachers of AU Psychology Dept. went to a kindergarten in Nantou to teach children how to use mobile phones correctly.
Prof. Yun-Hsuan Chang, an associate professor of the Department of Psychology at Asia University (AU), and students from the clinical psychology section of the master’s class went to Qin Zi Tian Kindergarten at Puli in Nantou County to carry out the Internet Addiction Prevention “Take-Root” Project. They taught the children to understand the right way to make use of mobile phones: use for 30 minutes and rest for 10 minutes. Prof. Chang called on parents and teachers to work together to prevent children from becoming addicted to mobile phones and other 3C products. Prof. Chang, who also serves as the secretary of the Center for Prevention and Treatment of Internet Addiction at China Asia Associated University, said that in order to allow the kindergarten children to use 3C products correctly and develop a healthy and self-disciplined Internet attitude from an early age, the whole activity uses music, picture books, characters and other factors to allow children to learn multiple psychological skills. Chief Huang, the director of the Qin Zi Tian Kindergarten, said that she often sees parents’ motorcycles with mobile phones or tablets, and the children sitting in the front seat can watch them while riding so that there is little interaction between the parents and the children. Chief Huang is very happy that the teachers of AU come to the kindergarten to promote the project, let children and teachers understand how to use 3C products healthily.
After listening to the teacher’s advice, the kindergarten children said in a childish way that they will tell their parents to look at their mobile phones for 30 minutes and let their eyes rest for 10 minutes. Prof. Chang called on parents and teachers to pay more attention to the time children spend in using 3C products, and encourage them to use the products healthily with their parents. In this way, parents will become important supervisors in the prevention and treatment of Internet addiction, reducing children’s escape into the internet world in the future. A graduate student from the Psychology Dept. of the Medical and Health Science College at AU, Shi-Qing Jin, said that it was the first time she went to the kindergarten to lead children to take part in activities. She was at a loss from the beginning, but finally she found out how to get along with the children and learn to design children’s lessons and cultivate them to adapt to various situations. Thanks to the teachers and the kindergarten for providing the practice opportunity to the project.
